Closing out #BlackHistoryMonth with some unpopular, yet factual opinions.

*Everyone focuses on MLK. But truly, Malcolm Shabazz X was the one. The true visionary.

*WEB Dubois was not a revolutionary. He was for maintaining white status quo that left Black people to figure it out for themselves.

*We do not discuss Betty Hill enough, whose activism single-handedly kept white racism and segregation from infiltrating the free state of California, specifically Los Angeles, in the early 1900s.

*Lonnie Johnson is one of the most prolific scientists in modern history and no one cares because he’s Black.

*Unfortunately, Fredrick Douglass is not that guy, either. He is also the father of modern White Feminism. Follow the history: He married a free Black Woman, Anna Murray, who funded his education, The North Star paper that made him famous, just to divorce her when she was sick and marry Helen Pitts, who used his name and dead wife’s money to start the first suffrage movement in America.

Finally, without Black women like Katherine Johnson and Mae Jemison, NASA would not have its Modern Space Program. Their contributions, especially Johnson’s, is the only reason a racist white America got to the moon in the first place.

…and thank you for walking with us though yet another extended #BlackHistoryMonth. I hope you stick around for the rest of the year.

@ErickaSimone Betty Hill, married to Barney Hill? If so, they were very active in this. Good plug.
@Thumptastic they’re amazing too, but this one specifically. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betty_Hill_(activist)

@ErickaSimone I pearned about their activism after I was introduced to their Interrupted Journey. They were an amazing pair. I'm fortunate to be friends with their niece, Kathleen Marden.
