Thunderbird Monthly Development Digest: February 2024

In this month's Development Digest, Alex shares exciting news about Thunderbird Sync, Exchange support, and the Thunderbird Snap on Linux.

The Thunderbird Blog
@thunderbird Tangentially related, I LOVE this spin on the thunderbird icon y’all are using for this blog.
@benfuddled Thanks!
@micah, take a bow.
(Micah has designed a ton of these Thunderbird logo variants and we love them too)
@thunderbird super excited to see Thunderbird sync get close to shipping.
When adding sync to multiple previously existing profiles, will there be a merge mechanism or will one profile fully overwrite the other?
@thunderbird Great news about you guys bringing the snap package in house! I've been using it since supernova and it's been a very seamless experience. :)
@thunderbird
Hi, great news and thanks for your huge work !
Will you, like for Firefox Nightly, propose a ppa and continue to provide an updated deb package, for all users who don't want to use snaps in Ubuntu (as default will become the snap in next version) ? 🫰🏼😄
@valeryan24 @thunderbird We plan to eventually provide our own deb but in the meantime, if you do not want to use snap, you can use our official flatpak:

Hi, thanks for your answer, I will check that ! 🙂
I don't use flatpak either, only official or ppa deb packages, it's easier and more homogenous for updates.
For the moment there is a ppa, but I don't know if it will continue and Ubuntu already switched to snap :
