In functional civilizations, transformative societal changes are always pragmatic and incremental. I think progressive purity ponies live in a privileged world that can afford to pontificate about abstract utopias that are, ultimately, unattainable.
@darrylrscott what about the civil rights movement? I think you could probably describe that as pragmatic and incremental, but it lives in the cultural imagination as spontaneous and revolutionary. How do you see it?
@justintemps I think successful protest movements understand that there's more than one tool available to implement their agenda. Taking a "boots on the ground" political strategy is legitimate as long as it isn't exclusively performative. More is needed than Aaron Sorkinesque speeches.
