Me, for @takebackthect.bsky.social, on how today's delay of the Trump prosecution is just the latest example of the Court giving Republicans a political win regardless of what their ultimate ruling is.

The Supreme Court just handed Trump a win

Even if the Court ultimately rules against Trump, by delaying his prosecution they've already helped him avoid accountability

Take Back the Court

The Court's ruling in the Alabama gerrymandering case last year is instructive: The Court struck down obviously-illegal maps.

BUT FIRST it issued an injunction keeping them in place for the 2022 mid-terms, handing Republicans control of Congress using illegal maps.

Process matters.

I am begging some of the people who are surprised by what the Supreme Court did today to start listening to some of the people who aren't

@foser Absolutely, which is why SCOTUS is slow-walking the immunity case. They are completely capable of issuing a swift opinion.

But they won't.They can vote against Trump, while still giving him what he wants and needs: delay.

@Yorgus @foser They didn't even need to issue a swift opinion. They were completely capable of just not taking the case up, the same way they don't take up the cases of women who kill their abusive boyfriends or Black people who get their faces chewed off by cop dogs. They're really good at not taking up cases. On this one, they could have just let the DC Circuit's opinion stand, because it's a perfectly good opinion. But no.
