And now - for something completely different.

I'm a German native speaker, but for about 25 years I read books in English, if that's the original language.

So far I've mostly stuck to "modern" books - but now I took on "Pride and Predjudice". Oh my, English has certainly changed a lot in the last 200 years. (Not that I should be surprised, reading German literature from 200 years ago is also difficult).

I've more of Austen's books, but I think I need a break.

@FanCityKnits likewise! 😀 I'm german, too, and I flatter myself that I am capable of speaking quite a nice English. But Jane broke my back. I adore her - but I'll do that in German 😅 (Oh, and don't even get me started on Shakespeare!)

@bookedhooker

I tried Shakespeare once - but in an annotated version and with the German translation next to it. Much ado about nothing, because I love the movie with Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson so much.

@FanCityKnits Yes, these ones work quite well! But without translation Shakespeare (I tried Romeo and Juliet - of course...) melted my synapses. 😅
@FanCityKnits ich habe mir die Bücher auf Englisch angehört. War auch sehr spannend. Da ich aber die deutschen Versionen irgendwann schon einmal gelesen hatte, ging es halbwegs. Ich mag übrigens Sinn und Sinnlichkeit aus 1995 am Liebsten. Mit Alan Rickman und Hugh Grant
