I don’t usually post photographs that I haven’t taken myself, but I’ve been scanning old prints of my mother. She passed away in January after long, debilitating illness. It warms my heart to see earlier versions of that fierce, fun woman. #photography #BlackAndWhite #SaddleShoes

@NYSloth Oh my. I am so sorry. This must be a really hard passage for you and your family. No doubt grief still comes in waves.

My mother died in mid-November. I think of her every day, and I still feel the need to pick up the phone to talk to her.

Today, after eyedrops and cleaning my glasses, I noticed the long vertical scratch on her sweater. As best I can remember, here are the steps I took last night: 1) put the photo on a new layer, 2) filled a new layer with the same shade of white as on the old background [thought about saving the speckled edge, but didn't], 3) squared the borders of the photo, 4) used a mix of Photoshop Curves, Exposure [gamma correction], and some Unsharp Mask [50%/3px], 5) did the spotting today that I didn't do last night ;)>
