i didn't know that the @internetarchive runs a search service just for research papers:

a bit of ego searching did not disappoint and brought all web-accessible PDFs via the wonderful #waybackmachine. what i really appreciate is that the interface exposes the DOIs!

the corpus might not be on par with Google Scholar yet, but it's good to have free and open alternatives in case someone in Mountain View gets into sunsetting mood…

Brilliant! This could be really useful for historic papers. I often can find their identifiers via PubMed (for medicine/cell biology). Yet the publishers websites are frequently so badly maintained and indexed for <1960s papers that even via an institutional subscription the PDFs require navigating a maze of useless links.
