Anyone have alarm system and camera thoughts?

Ring? Abode? Alarm.com/Surety? Simplisafe?

Ideally would want the alarm and cameras under one plan instead of needing two.

Thanks!

@chopaganda my wife put a ring in a few months ago. 🤷🏻‍♂️
@Wolfenhaus @chopaganda I’m curious about this too. We can get ADT security w/our google fiber so wondering if that’s the way to go? Not cool w/Ring releasing camera footage to cops w/o you knowing they are going to do so (read that may be changing though). Wolf-is Ring just doorbell and one camera that lets you see who came to door? Do you have it on more than one door?
@2dogphish @chopaganda correct - on front door. Costs like $5 a month for video access. I don’t like it but I was not consulted
@chopaganda Just got ADT. Wanted to use a smaller local business, but their prices on the equipment cannot be beat. Not even close. Also cool that there’s an app for that. I can unlock my front door anywhere in the world.
@bethbjammin How much is the monitoring? Is there a contract?
@chopaganda $63 a month, 36 months. I don’t have video. Yet. Hubs wants it. I could care. I wanted smoke, CO2, heat sensors and door/window contacts. I’m also pretty sure I can add other Z-wave devices into the system.
@chopaganda We have had SimpliSafe for a few years. Remote operation is good, devices hold up but batteries do need changing. Monitoring has worked and they call you when an alarm trips. We use the cameras when we are OOT and they have blue lights on them which is probably enough to have the troublemakers move on to the neighbors. I have control and no contracts. Would buy again. PS. I have had Sonos since 2005 and would put it in that category of high product quality.

@chopaganda

I use Ubiquiti for cameras (and my network). I have two cameras, one that shoots down my driveway and another in the doorbell. All camera footage is stored locally (available to view via a cloud connection from anywhere, though). Not a fan of cloud-based storage, or Ring's propensity to give footage to law enforcement without a subpoena or a warrant (they say they're not doing that now, but ... yeah, sure).

Can't speak to alarm companies, though.
