“The fantasy that Democrats will simply swap out Biden is based on the notion that voters don’t control the party, that there’s some secret cabal that pulls the strings. But as Biden noted earlier this month, upon winning the 2024 South Carolina primary with more than 95% of the vote: “In 2020, it was the voters of South Carolina who proved the pundits wrong, breathed new life into our campaign, and set us on the path to winning the presidency.” Yes, voters picked Biden.”

Welcome to the Anxiety Election

The prospect of another Trump term is terrifying, but let’s not freak out over every bad news cycle.

@TonyStark
😆 Like the democratic party didn't actively suppress all attempts at having others run against him for m the primaries.
Wow, we keep everyone off the ballot, and we won. What a surprise.

@joehill @TonyStark Troll who didn’t read it and can’t argue facts so lies. Blocked.
@TonyStark “Joe Biden is old” is intellectually lazy and so is anyone who uses it to try and summarize his record or his run.
@TonyStark She was great on Ali Velshi this morning.
@TonyStark Ok, but the DNC was sued in 2016, argued, and won, on the fact that they are literally allowed to have a secret cabal that chooses their nominee because they're a private entity.

Would Biden probably win a primary regardless? Yes.

But I don't think it's fair to point to him winning "primary" votes on what is certainly not an actual primary as some sort of hope that all of the general polls are wrong about his reelection chances.

@TonyStark Exactly, the fact that we're wasting our time engaging with this nonsense shows why republican operatives embraced this potential 'both sides' issue.

Instead of talking about Biden's triumphs, we're wasting our political capital on refuting this bullshit.

@Badger_AF I prefer the triumph part for sure. Very disappointing to see a few people trying to blow it up so close to the election. Thanks for the good point.
@TonyStark All the commentary about someone else should run...Well fine. Then give us a name. Who? Who is the person that can hit ground running, and won't have to learn on the job. Who has the ability to win votes and get things done (ideas are easy until they have to be implemented.) In the world that we have now, I want foreign policy chops, depth and breadth of expertise and experience. Team Biden's record (whether or not one fully agrees with him) demonstrates they get things done.
@nomdeb I absolutely have a reply to this and no time to share it this evening. Tomorrow. Well said, though. Well said.

@nomdeb I’ve specifically asked a number of accounts who say this kind of thing exactly that. Who? Give me a name because “someone else” isn’t a person. No one answers.

The last one said “well, that’s on you! You come up with someone!” And I’m like, I already did. That was Joe/Kamala. Honestly. Some account honestly said that.

@TonyStark Biden has surrounded himself with competent people. That to me is a key element of successful leadership.
@CatDragon @TonyStark I so agree! Biden's cabinet is largely (hey, it's not perfect) of smart free thinkers who share a common goal with Biden. They tell Biden what can and can't be done. Dump's cabinet will be loaded with grifters, christian radicals, and kiss-ups.
@TonyStark based on the podcasts I have listened to, it is mostly "never Trump" Republicans that wanted someone feistier and angrier than Trump to directly take him on, and Biden's style isn't that, but it has been far better for governing. I will accept "good president" more than I want to see a fight on TV. It is not for a political opponent to put Trump in his place, he has done enough outrageous and illegal stuff, without shame, that it is better for him to be properly prosecuted by courts.
@Urban_Hermit Interesting, thanks. I really don’t like angry guys all that much and don’t know how good that is for rational decision making so I’m with you.
