Have you ever bought a game because you like the cover artwork? I did it this time! I confess I also did it with some visual novels that I later found were otomes, but I digress. #CatherineFullbody on #NintendoSwitch is a remake of Catherine (classic) as it's called on #Steam. I opted for Fullbody for more content and better gameplay. Also, I needed the artwork in physical format.
What's with all the rams anyway?

@helligbird
The game itself is a cool concept, the transphobic bits are some bullshit but it's expected from Japan.
@GrayGooGirl I had to check and they changed something in Full Body. I don't know if it got better. Did it? It's cool they made a trans character; it spoiled a little bit to me but I still don't know who she is, so I won't google anymore about it before I play it ;)
@helligbird The story hasn't changed, they pulled back a couple of outright horrid bits of dialog but it still implies trans women are men through the core story.
@helligbird art and character design by Shigenori Soejima, you have good taste πŸ™
@helligbird there's a few pages of art from Catherine in one of the Soejima art books I picked up last year... He doesn't get to do much stuff like this for the Persona series
@COMPU73E It has so much charm! That book must be amazing! I love pink everywhere, like in Rain Code ;)

@helligbird these are the two I picked up, the Catherine stuff is in the one on the right. There is an English edition published by Udon Entertainment but I imported these two from Japan

And yes, they are both amazing. I stared at them for hours when they arrived ❀️ I cannot wait for Metaphor: ReFantazio just to see more of his stuff

@helligbird that pic of Aigis on the left is one of my favourites of his
@COMPU73E The art of Metaphor is an eye-candy, isn't it? I loved the Famitsu cover art and content. Still have to read it with my phone's help. Did you buy those books from Amazon Japan?
Aigis is such a beautiful character btw!

@helligbird there's just something about the way he draws faces and expressions that I love, I'm not really sure how to describe it, but they have this vulnerability about them

I got the books from ebay, there's quite a few Japanese sellers listing them

@COMPU73E I see what you mean. They're more like stylized humans than anime dolls. I think it plays a role in the way they convey facial expression.
Thanks for the tip. I like the Japanese sellers on ebay.
@helligbird Japanese ebay is dangerous, so dangerous

@helligbird I did. Although I can't remember from the top of my mind any to give an example.

I know that if I see a visual novel with an interesting image on Steam I will often click on it, look at more screenshots, read the game's description and if I like it put it on my Wishlist. So I guess that is close enough?

@rakuno Yes, it's more or less the Steam version of that. I wonder why I have 80 games on my wishlist! Well, some of them aren't even out yet, but still. The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails is another one that comes to mind. It has beautiful box art, both on the limited edition and the normal one. It's anime art for those who like it.

@helligbird True that.

If I bought more physical games I'd probably do that a lot more. But I prefer to play on the PC so my games usually come from Steam and after the initial purchase don't become as much of an eye-candy, if that makes any sense.

And now I want to play Catherine too... I had the game for some years now but I keep forgetting or playing other games...

@rakuno I don't have time to play it right now. After Persona 3 I want to jump right into Soul Hackers 2 on Steam and I'm a bit on-and-off with Shin Megami Tensei V on the Switch.
I like to look at my Steam library. It's pretty sweet :) I don't own many games but I tend to buy more random things on Steam than on consoles. Some are really surprising, like the visual novel Misericorde, or Slay the Princess.
@rakuno @helligbird this is why I have almost 130 games on my wishlist
@aceattveg @helligbird *hides the 214 games on his wishlist*
@rakuno @aceattveg Thank you for making me feel better, you two!

@helligbird

when i was a kid, the only reason i purchased a game was because of the cover art.

now? pretty much the same lol.

art direction is a major factor for me enjoying a game and i will judge a book by its cover, and that judgement may change based on the actual content of the game.
