VOA Russian reporter Valentina Vasileva, covering the Munich Security Conference, spoke briefly with Rep. Nancy Pelosi about Navalny’s death. The former House speaker said it’s “a horrible tragedy and his imprisonment was also a horrible tragedy.”
Navalny’s death, if confirmed, “raises real and obvious questions about what happened here,” White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan tells NPR.
Navalny's death in a Russian prison "and the fixation and fear of one man only underscores the weakness and rot at the heart of the system that Putin has built. Russia is responsible for this, we will be talking to many other countries about Alexei Navalny especially if these reports bear out to be true," US Secretary of State Blinken tells reporters in Munich.
"Putin should be accountable" for Navalny's death, says David Cameron, the UK foreign secretary.
US government working to confirm Navalny's death, says VP Kamala Harris in Munch. His death would be a further sign of Putin's brutality.
Russia is responsible for Navalny's death, adds Harris in speech to the Munich Security Conference. "We'll have more to say on this later."
"I don't know if we should believe the terrible news we have heard," says Yulia Navalny of the reported death of her husband in an Arctic Russian penal colony.
Secretary Blinken met with Yulia Navalny at the Munich Security Conference. Blinken "expressed his condolences to Ms. Navalny if the reports of Alexei Navalny’s death are true and reiterated that Russia is responsible for his death," according to the State Department.
"The Secretary-General is shocked by the reported death in detention of opposition figure Alexei Navalny," says Antonio Guterres's spokesman Stephane Dujarric. The UN chief wants "a full, credible and transparent investigation into the circumstances of Navalny's reported death in custody.'
@w7voa How incredibly sad..
Hmm 🤔 …a brutal dictatorship that stifles all political opposition imprisons and facilitates the death of a known opposition figure. Who could have seen this coming? @w7voa
@w7voa further sign of Putin's cowardice. The brutality is secondary
@w7voa And Putin's "popularity" is a smoke screen. They all fear for their lives over there. Express any opinion different from the current regime and you'll be put in jail. The KGB literally has bugs everywhere.
It's complete fascism and The Rump admires this.
@w7voa I think this is yet another sign the Russian 'state' is headed for collapse in the not-too-distant future. While this illustrates Putin's brutality, it also serious underscores his weakness in that that he's terrified of a man over which he already had full control.
@w7voa by gumbo we will keystone cop, yes indeedy
@w7voa lol, "horrible tragedy" as in "murder". 🤦‍♂️
