This really is part of a larger trend, we don't have a real government so much as a group of folks that just do what ever industry wants.
As someone quiped at our minister of "Innovation, Science and Industry" we didn't ban screw drivers in previous decades' waves of car theft.
Passive open car locks are laughably insecure but the government is never gonna do something like mandate car manufactures fix their car security, haul in all cars for retrofits, stop sucking. Much easier to informatively piss on some little tech start up.
Cus in the end every move our government makes is just for and at the behest of big industry, even when it hurts them like bill c18 and c11, it's at the behest of the out of touch boomer CEOs of those industries who also don't understand what the last few decades have done to their industries... 🤦♀️
