I don't have a problem with rich people. I just want to tax them until they can't buy my government out from under me.

@fatsam Unfortunately Daniel if a society allows vast inequalities of wealth then thats what you get. You can't give some people a massive advantage over the rest and not expect them to use it.

And thats why vast inequalities of wealth should not be allowed to exist.

@black_flag there are certainly other ways in which great wealth distorts the organization of a decent society, but the purchase of the government is the lever that makes it all possible.
@fatsam But for that to happen there has to be a government to purchase. Which is just one reason a government is another bad idea, one of several bad ideas human beings have had since they became settled rather than wandering communities. But neither inequalities of wealth nor government are inevitable.
@black_flag well, never say never, I'm an anarchist myself. But I've seen governments with sane tax structures; I've never seen a society without a government, beyond, maybe, a large commune.

@fatsam You can read about them if you read some anthropology. Several 20th century examples.

That aside there are myriad anarchist examples of ignoring the government and acting as if they did not exist - mostly from anarchists who would not regard "tax" as anything remotely legitimate.
