@NewtonMark ugh. Both Coles and Woolies have made their self checkout machines increasingly unpleasant, so I have already been avoiding them when I can. With this story, I may have to start shopping at IGA.

@NewtonMark We just found out yesterday that Foodstuffs is going to roll out nonconsensual facial recognition tech in some of its North Island stores. I heard a spokesdroid saying (almost verbatim) "if you've got nothing to hide you have nothing to fear" and reflexively reached for a pitchfork.

Another really good reason to wear a mask in retail spaces.

@NewtonMark I stopped shopping at Coles when they added a sensor at the self checkouts that played a tinny recording of someone saying "thank you for using Coles self checkouts" every time someone walked into the self checkouts area.
