My productivity life-hack: I write myself a "Don't Do" list, and every Thursday evening, I tick the ones I haven't done, feel good about myself and reward myself with a bottle of Rioja and a curry. You can use my list, or write your own! #productivityLifeHacks
I've got this week's Don't Do list written and stuck on my monitor. I'm pretty confident of the first 4, and will strive for (5). #productivityLifeHacks #adventureCrapitalism
@brucelawson kind of surprised about the first one - any reason in particular? Would love to learn more tbh (even only on DMs if you'd prefer that)
@kelset Ah, because an external keyboard user on Android can never put focus into a text input - reported July 2021 https://github.com/facebook/react-native/issues/31820
Can't focus into text fields, Android + external keyboard · Issue #31820 · facebook/react-native

In the first Expo example on https://reactnative.dev/docs/textinput - with an external physical keyboard on Android, we don't seem to be able to move the focus into/ between these input fields. It'...

@kelset If Facebook can't be arsed to sort it out in 3 years, I won't use it!
@brucelawson oh I see - yeah I feel you, a11y (sadly) never got the right amount of funding on this project :/ have you ever tried submitting a PR? I know it's not the fun answer but specifically for a11y fixes it might be the only way to get it addressed sooner rather than later
@kelset No, because what goes on under the hood is beyond my brain-grade. And, at the time, Facebook were making virtuous noises about prioritising a11y bugs so I rather naively took them at their word https://reactnative.dev/blog/2021/03/08/GAAD-React-Native-Accessibility

Hello React Native Community,

@kelset Ooh I just realised you're a RN maintainer. I'd be happy to carve out some time from personal projects to test any fix that Microsoft does, if that would help. But I don't work on RN any more so don't have any app I can compile; I'd need an installable apk.
@brucelawson I've found walruses to be very emotionally intelligent and caring partners.
@bernat you fell for the old "I am he as you are he as you are we as we are altogether" line? They won't get me again.
@brucelawson is that a >2 (general) or a 72 (oddly specific)?
@alvaromontoro > 2. Killing 72 people would leave me little time for downtime or socialising, experience has taught me
@brucelawson Asking for a friend: 5. Are other animals OK? Not particularly but definitely including elephants.
@woo Feel free to write your own, but be kind on yourself and only include things you're pretty confident you won't achieve.
@brucelawson That's easy then and much like my approach to any objective setting. I set the 'stretch targets' I was required to and was 'kind to myself' by doing the other things that were actually necessary to keep the business functioning. This is why I was such a great fit with BigCo culture. My methodology is called "Getting the important shit done by ignoring HR." Wait until Gartner hears about it.
@brucelawson Also, not the elephant thing.
@brucelawson … thinking of Humpty Dumpty’s unbirthdays…
@aaronpriven Mr Dumpty is something of a role model for me.
