Google Open Source Blog

re Google Season of Docs: it's so exciting to me to see more ways for people to get paid to write docs for open source projects.

writing clear explanations is SO hard (I've been working full time on explaining git for 4 months and I still have a lot of work to do) and we can't magically expect all of that work to happen for free

it looks like if you're a technical writer interested in being paid to contribute to OSS docs with Google Season of Docs 2024, you can make a pull request to add your information here: https://github.com/google/season-of-docs/blob/main/2024-participants/interested-technical-writers/interested-technical-writers.md

@b0rk this is very welcome news although, as @shanselman pointed out recently, with bing/gpt and Google summarising docs in search to be helpful/keep eyeballs on their platform (choose your own level of cynicism) there is going to be less incentive for people to write on blogs or docs on open platforms. It feels like we're taking steps both forward and backwards in creating a web which is sustainable for authors.

Please keep up the excellent work. 🧡👏
