Behind the border mess: Open GOP rebellion against McConnell
Behind the border mess: Open GOP rebellion against McConnell
This light bulb moment happened for me whilst talking to a right-winger a few years ago. They were mad about a gov program that helped people. The person was not affected in any way and there really wasn’t any downside (other than a feeble “moar taxes!”), but they were vocally upset about folks down on their luck getting “handouts” which caused ire and derision on their part. They were against helping people.
Now, of course, I see this all over the place with them. But I also think they’ve gotten bolder and even more vocal about hurting (never mind helping anymore) those they care little for. Which is nearly everyone outside of their immediate family/friend circle.
Those same brain cells that deny them the thought that they’d ever be a part of that down and out group also believe their millionaire status is right around the corner.

Fear. Of everything. Of America not being how it was when they were growing up. Conservative media have to constantly keep them terrified of imaginary shit so they’ll vote for the person who can “fix” it.
You think they take 5 minutes to wonder why the “caravan” appears like clockwork right around election time every few years and then disappears like magic?
Nah.
