dead internet theory only applies to spaces in clear view
it's disappointing that the clear view is all that most people will ever experience
@esm and it's sad the clear view used to be decent
@esm whats clear view?
@unnick the largest, most visible parts of the web

a "theory" is, by definition, something that has been essentially proven based on a hypothesis, with the hypothesis in this case being that the internet has become nothing but a wasteland of content mill sludge and spam

while there is a lot of that on today's internet, there are many spaces that are not that and many more people working towards keeping those things out, and many of these are even in clear view/access

i see a lot of people talk about and spread this - but i never see those same people even attempt to seek out a space where this isn't the case, instead opting to keep going back to places that are filled with these things and never reconsidering

the current and continued existence of the wide amount of spaces on the web without these things easily disproves this hypothesis, which means it has little standing as a theory

that being said, are these spaces immune to these things? no. they never have been, and they never will be

at some point the worst of things will happen to any space, whether it be a large amount of spam, drama, etc.; what truly matters and what separates the good from the bad is how it's handled

what we are seeing now is a result of the large entities that we once trusted failing to handle these things adequately

@esm I agree. I went through a rough patch after deleting my Reddit account but I eventually landed on one of your awesome servers and it feels like I’m right at home. I’ve already met lots of cool people here. So thanks! 😁🍻
