Video Games in the 80s: Run! Jump! Eat this flower! Collect the coins!

Video Games Now: You are a broken man, haunted by the choices you've made. You do not fear the sweet embrace of death, but you still have unfinished business.

@cmconseils

I've been playing Timberborn today.

It's a cutesy city building game with lots and lots of beaver 🤣

@cmconseils Here's one of my favourites 🤓
@cmconseils Buy the "Unfinished Business" Season Pack DLC for £49 hehe 😀😃😁😂
@cmconseils
I started playing Dying Light when the pandemic hit.
It seemed an appropriate way to pass the time 😂
@cmconseils Literally described my life…..my vision loss is at a point where I’m wearing an eye patch too…lol
@cmconseils
Wonder why reto games are so popular?
@cmconseils
Though the 80s did have Leisure Suit Larry to start the dark broken man trend.
@cmconseils Tho my newest and fav game right now outside my mmos is Mario Wonder lol
@cmconseils I don't know,video games have become too expensive.

@cmconseils

Fortunately they aren't all like that. :) I recommend Bear and Breakfast. It's about setting up and running holiday homes, while being a bear. Very cute and comes with a pretty good plot.

@cmconseils now roam an infinite space and don't forget to buy DLC
@cmconseils Yea, those games in the 80's were horrific! ;)

Video Games Now, cont: … now eat this sandwich you found on the ground to stop yourself from bleeding to death.

Computer Facts (@computerfact) on X

video game history: 1st game: the two of you circle a dying star, alone, locked in combat for reasons long forgotten. your only thought is the destruction of the only other soul in this howling void. your deaths are meaningless and go unnoticed. 2nd game: tennis

@nasser @cmconseils The notable thing here is that it's actually not some anonymous star that is dying -- it is Sol, our sun, that is the lonely eternal battleground.
They coded the real data from star charts for the baclgrounds.
@cmconseils you are running and jumping to keep ahead of your own self-loathing, and eat flowers to dull the pain
@cmconseils Both are valid imo if done right. Not every game has to be very deep, but it should at least be consistent in it's own world.
@cmconseils I feel like this is just a summation of my life.
@cmconseils Flashbacks to Max Payne right there.
@cmconseils *but* you can now pet the dog with more polygons than ever.
@cmconseils ...and then you also have to run and jump and eat the flower and get the coins.
@cmconseils You say that like the second description doesn’t perfectly apply to Pac-Man.

@cmconseils

Video games in the 80s were about escaping reality in fun colourful worlds. Video games now are about reality, realism and the horror and dross of real life. I know which I prefer.

(I find enty of 80s style games on the switch though).

@cmconseils super Mario bros wonder is still a thing
@cmconseils Having started with coding basic games to rogue to CGA EGA VGA games I've always liked the better graphics. When I couldn't play music for a while I tried Oblivion. When you come out of the dungeons that first time it was awesome. While people were freaking out during the pandemic, I was wandering through Cyrodil, Riftkin, Hope County, Toussiant The Embrace and Ancient Greece of ACOD. 2D games are cool but the games that let you explore have a special place in my heart.
@cmconseils ok, you need play czech game "Kingdom Come" 😉
@cmconseils and someone killed your dog.
