holy shit mozilla has a new issue tracker documenting all of the ways that apple, google, and microsoft purposefully put third party browsers at a disadvantage and is calling for action https://mozilla.github.io/platform-tilt/
Platform Tilt - Mozilla
Platform Tilt tracks technical issues in major software platforms which disadvantage Firefox relative to the first-party browser.
@[email protected] I do also think that google should allow users to change the default browser webview unless there's a specific reason it needs chrome. most roms force you to use the one built in.
@Jessica@[email protected] funnily enough, the Android version of Pixels actually is pretty good in that regard. You can just disable Chrome without any weird methods and it'll use the next best browser available. And if Firefox is the only browser installed, guess what? Even Google apps will use Firefox
@Jessica@[email protected] It really doesn't though. Every single webview I open on my phone is Firefox. Every single one works the same. The API implemented for WebViews is enforced by Android
@Jessica@[email protected] Considering that literally everything that opens anything web still works fine (including all of Google services, Discord, Arbeitsagentur, banking, etc), I'd argue that it does in fact use firefox as intended
@mstar@[email protected] this isn't a "brings up a website" view this is a "this app is based off a website" code which most modern apps use and build on top of. You must have a built in system webview that isn't visible or you're unaware of.
@Jessica@[email protected] double checked. While you can set the default webview in the dev settings, Mozilla doesn't offer one for download So technically we are both wrong. I in that it already is used, you in that you can't control that aspect
