Daring Fireball
@daringfireball I’m a subscriber too. But their iOS & macOS browser plugin wont stick. It works for a while then stops, and I have to bounce Safari then it starts again. I have emailed them a few times and never get any kind of response. I’m bummed because I like the search - but it gets old quick having to do the browser restart dance.

Kagi had an issue with their Safari extensions a couple weeks ago causing the problem you're describing. It's now fixed. And, they also moved to a new cross platform (Mac, iOS, iPad) extension that has the same name, which was a bit confusing while there were two Kagi apps in the store. Make sure you have the cross platform one installed or reinstall it. After I did that, it's been sticking in Safari. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/kagi-search-for-safari/id1622835804

‎Kagi Search for Safari

‎Due to limitations in the Safari browser, Kagi cannot be set as your true default browser. Instead, this extension intercepts your request and redirects to Kagi, creating a seamless search experience. It works in Private Browsing as well. @reflectivecone @daringfireball But it’s not fixed. The new extensions are when the problem started for me. It happens two or three times a day.
@reflectivecone @daringfireball And yes, I read through the entire feedback page - they acknowledge its broken and have rolled back their “new” versions and are back to the 1.0 ones which require access to all websites. It’s very broken.
@reflectivecone @daringfireball Which is all fine and dandy for tech folks but with a family subscription trying to keep it all working is a pain.
@valkraider @daringfireball Ah, interesting. The rollback fixed it for me. Have you taken a look at xSearch? It's a little annoying to set up, but that one reliably redirects searches to Kagi, in my experience. In the xSearch settings, I used the override mode “blacklist”. I used xSearch prior to the Kagi extension and while Kagi was broken for me over the holidays.
@valkraider @daringfireball Also, I hear you on managing it for other people. I do the same thing. They need things to *just work*. I must admit, I felt a little frustrated by the way Kagi handled the Safari extension “upgrade”. Hopefully they’ll put in the effort to make it less likely that they'll break things in the stable channel. At the same time, Apple needs to make it possible to customize the search engine in Safari, while keeping enough friction in the process to maintain security.
