Google's decline in search quality could be explained a lot of ways. But something that must be a factor is changing from being led by computer scientists to, in 2015, being led by a an MBA from McKinsey. I think MBA dogma is ultimately poisonous to long term quality.

@williampietri As Deming said: "The problem is that most courses teach what is wrong."
@williampietri unfortunately I've tried most alternatives and haven't loved and of them
@hunterking @williampietri I switched to DuckDuckGo/Firefox a little while ago and I haven’t noticed much difference tbh. Certainly not worse.

@williampietri I never really bought the "this person did an MBA, that is the root of all problems" argument.

Pichai spent way more years studying metallurgical engineering & material science than he did doing his MBA. Also, he's been with Google since 2004 and spent most of his working years in technical fields. Every time he speaks it's also clear that he's smart and technical. I don't understand why a CEO would need to avoid a business education altogether to be good.

@Techaltar Ok? You have convinced me that you don't understand it. Were you expecting something to happen, or were you just looking for my agreement that you don't understand?
@williampietri neither. I thought I read something in your post I didn't agree with and pointed it out. Maybe I'm wrong, although it's hard to know given that you haven't told me why. But anyway, let's agree to disagree and have a nice day.
@Techaltar Again, I'm mystified as to why you think I'd care that some pseudonymous reply guy doesn't agree based on no apparent facts, analysis, or knowledge of the topic. But sure, carry on. 👋
