Nick Wallis was one of the first journalists to regularly report the emerging scandal of the sub-postmasters prosecuted and sacked from their jobs by the Post Office.

As a young local journalist it was Nick who brought the story to the BBC. Now he's made a gripping 21-part podcast looking back at the scandal, explaining the terrible effects on the accused postmasters and the recent developments. It's an essential listen.

Just to say how much I enjoyed and learnt from the series. Nick would have had a great future on Newsnight.

Maybe with a different government the #BBC will escape from being a victim of culture wars.

@stuart @BBCRadio4 A government that doesn’t coopt the BBC as its favored communicator perhaps?

Given that creating a truly independent #BBC is a mirage I'd settle for one that wouldn't punish them for alleged but unsubstantiated bias. It's all about the news division but that is a tiny part of its broadcasting hours and audience.

Yet those cuts have disproportionately hit that more costly output. Driving a stake through its drama, documentaries & music. You know that part which underpins so much of British culture extending far beyond the BBC. Fair game in the culture war perhaps.

But our country will be poorer for it. Just an outpost for the US media empires.
