Layoffs happen in all industries, I think we all get that. People get moved on from companies, and I think we all get that as well. But it would be great to get some sort of announcement from @Posit and management at Posit on the plans for R moving forward. Community members I have spoken are nervous given the two major layoffs in the last month, without any official announcements. R has an amazing community and our ability to communicate/ collaborate are our real strengths @hadleywickham
@statsuser As we said when we changed our named to Posit, our commitment to R remains unchanged. But there's only so many times we can say that, so I think you just have to watch our future actions and judge us accordingly.
@statsuser unfortunately there is also mismatch between what information the community wants from us and what we can share as a responsible organisation. We don't advertise when people depart Posit (whatever the reason), but you can imagine that there are many other departures that you don't hear about on social media.
@hadleywickham I love the ecosystem you/the team have created and appreciate all Posit has done to date. I was being sensitive to two big names leaving in a short amount of time with no news from Posit. I get difficulties around staff departures. Of the colleagues I know who have been laid off announcements were only made when the names were influential. That experience is why I was concerned. Asides from this I have not questioned the rebrand and love working with the packages you guys build!
