🥶 It's our annual dishwasher that freezes up when the temperature drops below 0F time of the year.

Sadly, I thought this was fixed last January, but here we are again.

💡 While the world has moved on to LED bulbs, I'm thankful to have still a few old-school 40W and 60W bulbs, which put off just enough safe heat to help out our dishwasher.

🐮 Growing up in a rural area in the country with well water taught me this trick. Otherwise, we wouldn't have had running water for a few months every winter.

@webology I'm confused! In the UK we keep them in the kitchen plumbed into the same water supply that serves the main sink usually. Is this different in the US? How does it freeze?!

@djm My dishwasher is on an outside wall, and the drain appears frozen.

I found ice inside the unit along the back wall, which is a bad sign. I suspect there is a crack in the siding that's allowing just enough cold air in (it's below 0F/0C here) so it doesn't take much.

@webology Oh wow, the drain. I've never lived somewhere that cold. The bulbs help by heating the area around the drain?
@djm Yes, they are safer than using space heather, which can warp the plastic and rubber seals.
