Passenger iPhone survived 16k foot fall and still working after getting sucked out of the Alaska Air plane that lost a door panel in flight.
@bbdd333 I'm an android user so genuine question: is it possible to set an iPhone so the screen doesn't lock after some inactivity?
@samthurston @bbdd333 Yes.
Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock > Never
@alextm @bbdd333 ooof that's a terrible idea
@samthurston @bbdd333 Why? It isn’t the default. And I thought people preferred having options (Apple is usually criticized for not providing enough of them).
@alextm @bbdd333 having the option is fine, actually activating it is a tremendous risk if you ever leave your house.

@samthurston @bbdd333 🤷
I use it occasionally when working on apps/web stuff. iPhone sits beside my computer on a charging stand with the screen always on so I don’t have to unlock the phone every time I want to test a change.

The iPhone will lock (and require password/FaceID) as soon as I hit the power button.

The exact same option exists in Android btw.
Settings > Display > Screen Timeout > Never

@alextm @bbdd333 I'm not arguing that you should never use it. But travelling with an unlocked phone seems like a really bad idea to me. An easy way to exfil your bank accounts for example. Seems like there should be a warning when you activate that setting.
@samthurston @bbdd333 🤷 I’m not here trying to tell people how to use their devices. You asked if it was possible (genuine question!), and I answered.

@alextm @bbdd333 it's shocking to me because of the account recovery and payment integrations and as you mentioned, Apple not being known for offering options.

I'm happy to point out it's a risk and if people want to take it... 🤷🏼‍♂️

@samthurston @bbdd333 I’m not in the mood for a debate about the security policies of various operating systems, I was just trying to help when you asked a question. Have a nice day.
@alextm @bbdd333 not sure how this turned adversarial, I'm not trying to debate that either. Hope you have a good day too!
