I gotta say, listening to the course, what really grinds my gears is when something is being critiqued, but none of the STRENGTHS get mentioned.
I'm looking at the piece sent in and its clearly NOT bad. Help me understand why it's also NOT BAD despite you finding things to fix!!!
In general, i think some positive reinforcement is a good tool to guide someone. Show what to focus on in the moment. We can't do everything at the same time.
@Virensere I was taught when giving critique, to "Sandwich" the negative comments. Start with the strengths of the piece, explain the issues that need fixing, then finish the comment with more strengths. It leaves the recipient feeling more confident knowing they're one the right path and they often listen better, rather than putting up a mental wall against a negative comment. Seems to work, and it would be nice if it were more universal. Some people can only focus on the negative, I guess.
@DarkCousin Yeah absolutely, that sounsd like a great technique! wish people would consider that more
