This story about the Danish F-16s to Ukraine being delayed is getting annoying. It’s a non-story. The prime minister said in August that she hoped the planes could be delivered before new year, but quickly thereafter it was clarified that spring was the realistic time. There is no new delay, just this original one.

@anderspuck @SocraticEthics @lethen In that case the communication from the minister has been amateurish. They should have either kept the plan secret or published a realistic timetable.
@mok0 I think it's ridiculous to blame this story on the government. It's a journalist who published without thorough research.
@anderspuck The government is responsible for the messaging being clear and cannot be misinterpreted, especially in something as sensitive as this.
@anderspuck You yourself have talked about F16s being in Ukraine so you were also duped.
@mok0 No, I was referring to Dutch F-16s.
Really, the prime minister mentioned one time schedule in August at the press conference with Zelensky before any training of Ukrainian pilots had begun. Two months later the minister of defense adjusted that. I’m not sure what you think they should have done differently.
@anderspuck I don’t know perhaps I’m just frustrated, there seems to be nothing but bad news for Ukraine at the moment.
@mok0 That is true. I hope the U.S. Congress will get their act together soon.
@anderspuck I think we need plans not hope. It has been on the horizon for a while that US is going isolationist, it just happened faster than anyone anticipated. I think European politicians and military folks are still hoping it’s not so, but we really need to deal with reality.
@mok0 Vlad Vexler has an interesting video on why the West doesn’t have a strategy for Ukraine. https://youtu.be/bF9tT-x-u9o?si=8ImD6eoE0VB1lKu1
Why the West isn't helping Ukraine win

@anderspuck Thanks, I regularly watch Vlad but I haven't seen this one. My view is precisely expressed by Georgijs Ivanovs of "Ukraine Matters" , here he talks about the failure of the West (starts at 9:45). We both fear that Western inaction is showing the weakness that will invite Putin into the Baltic states sometimes in the future, because he believes he can do it without consequences. Note that it only matters what Putin believes inside his head. It will be bloody.

@anderspuck - Just watched your Y/T post of today - 1/13/24.
With respect, you did not factor the politics of the US Congress.
Now, in the lead-up to a Presidential election, Republicans SEEM hell-bent upon doing everything to frustrate, if not derail, everything the WH wants to do.
IF I MAY, the GOP needs the Biden Administration to appear failing at EVERYTHING.
Making current domestic political appearances - and sorry for this - TRUMP every issue until the next election. 🥺
@RTD8450 Yes, I understand that they are not in good faith asking for a strategy. It’s clearly just to obstruct the process.
