OK I sprang for six months of Education Week I had done a paid subscription back in 2012 when Justin Reich had a contest challenging math folks to make videos humorously critiquing Khan Academy -- and it's what got me onto #mtbos (#mtt2k for the contest!) and into that wonderful community. Just wish they'd figure out options for the bird site! #EducationWeek
... they're going to spend time on math ... sigh, it's such a mix of blather (ridiculously generic "solve problems by listening to students and training teachers better!") and very careful explorations of "the controversial" math ed issues in California.
.... and I'm already regretting it. They unapologetically make a "top influencer's" list with caveat that it has nothing to do with merit.
Clearly they care about the noisiest con artists because Stanford is much, much talked about including their con artists.
@geonz math influencers? Gross
@MissAnalysis They also had a good article about the Calculus Project including questioning the whole idea that they don't need calculus! Honestly, this watered down so called data science course is the thing!
So there is some good stuff and my task will be to at least share that out...https://www.edweek.org/teaching-learning/how-to-support-black-and-latino-students-to-tackle-calculus/2023/11
How to Support Black and Latino Students to Tackle Calculus

The founder of the Calculus Project speaks about how high school math pathways shape students’ postsecondary options.

@geonz Interesting. But I must admit when it comes to formal mathematics education, I’m of Paul Lockhart school. Even before I ever read his lament, based on my own experience, I was thinking that way.
