It's a few years old now, but I absolutely loved The Marvels (2015), by Brian Selznick. Like Wonderstruck (2011) and The Invention of Hugo Cabret (2007), it's half illustration and half written story.

The story is about belonging and plays with the idea of truth and fiction, asking: how should we tell the story of our family and our place, and how truthful must that story be?
