IMPORTANT:

trans people do not have to be on HRT, or medically transition at all, and are still trans

but also

trans people who ARE on HRT *need* it, and depriving them of it is forcibly medically detransitioning them (but doesn’t make them suddenly not trans)

k thx good talk

@tillybridges but on the third hand you shouldn't have to *need* HRT to get HRT.
@tattie right, but that's getting back into the area where a lot of people pushing back against transmedicalism feel it's not the HUGE deal it is when a trans person who NEEDS it loses it. For those who don't NEED it, losing it isn't horrific. it's pancakes and waffles.

@tillybridges I'm not sure if I *need* HRT. Honestly there are other aspects of transition that I needed more. But if anyone tried to take it from me... 🤬

(Actually, that's not hypothetical. The fucking NHS did try to take my meds away, utter gatekeeping assholes that they are. It... did not feel good.)

Basically HRT should be anyone's right, a matter of informed consent. Nobody should ever have to declare a "need" for it.

@tattie sure. yes.

but again this is a different topic, waffles and pancakes

the fact is many trans people DO *need* it

@tillybridges so here's what it boils down to: I've said I don't *need* HRT. Do you think it's justified to deny me it on those grounds?

Because I don't think it's right to deny it to anyone.

@tattie of course not! But rather than understanding the point of the post, you want to argue semantics for zero reason. because you yourself said you can’t lose HRT, which to me very much sounds like a need.

regardless, it is waffles. and. pancakes.
good gravy.

@tillybridges I'm glad to hear it. But you said:

"For those who don't NEED it, losing it isn't horrific."

You realise why that sentence would make me feel pretty worried, right? I'm not arguing semantics here, I was trying to understand if you would defend my right to gender care or if you'd just say "haha, well it's not like they *need* it, so long as I've got mine that's ok".

Because... there are plenty who *do* think that way.

@tattie okay but I said nothing that indicated I am one of the folks who hates waffles. and you’re still arguing semantics.

if losing HRT would be horrific for you, then you do in fact need it. but you don’t want to call it a “need.” but that’s not my problem? I’m so confused

maybe just don’t police posts looking for waffles to argue about 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m stepping out of this convo now, I’ve got pancakes to deal with

@tillybridges well, this whole conversation has been terribly disappointing 🙁
So it goes, I guess.
