My sister told me that my 15yo niece Indie was embroidering her own sneakers. “Cool,” I said, remembering how I used to doodle on mine. Then they sent me the photos. 🤯 They are STUNNING. Look at that. A TEENAGER DID THAT. 😍🐝🌸 #embroidery #embroidered #converse

@web_goddess TBF lots of teenagers do stuff like that. Then we get older and we get temper tantrums from prickling our fingers two times in a row and stop doing stuff like this.

My main 2024 resolution is to start doing stuff again that I used to do as a teenager...

@sahqon @web_goddess also we end up having to go to work and lose time for hobbies, because capitalism sucks (as evidenced by all the 'turn this into a side hustle immediately!' comments..! As if we shouldn't just create because it is good)
@noodlemaz @web_goddess I measured my time a bit because I thought I should actually have free time, and it turns out I do actually have free time, but I spend too much of it staring off into space or doomscrolling. Not that I have the energy to do much anything else, but maybe I should take a nap or at least watch an episode of a tv series or something that is not just staring off into space... You know, something that would register in my brain that "yes, I had free time". So at least in my case it's more of an energy problem, not a free time problem (I traveled for school more than work, so it's about the same free time wise as back then and now I don't have homework and chores I did back then too).
@sahqon @noodlemaz @web_goddess I keep remembering how fortunate I am that I was homeschooled (unschooled) and therefore had more time on my hands to do creative things than most of my peers. It's like I got an extra 10 years of life to experiment, and I hope I did it justice 😛

But yess I'm glad you could compare and figure out you have the free time after all 🙂

(Side note, I'm from India so this wasn't a religious homeschooling or anything; just that my parents were teachers and figured the education system sucked)
@badri @web_goddess @noodlemaz I bet a lot of people did that in India, at least every time I look up something diy, there's a young-ish indian girl doing something absolutely incredible with random household stuff that is both obvious but also I would never have thought of it lol! But I too invented a lot of interesting things while I was freeranged at grandparents on holidays and the internet (and interesting tv) was still a decade or so off. Maybe that's what we are missing right now. I should really get off social media. Might find a lot more free time and energy. Though back then it wasn't the end of the world happening every other week either, so maybe that's what's sapping our collective will to live.
