27 minutes into the new year & Canada's 100 highest-paid CEOs have already earned the average worker's annual salary, according to a report from Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA) carried on CBC.

CBC then cuts to Fraser Institute dude who says reports like this are "apples & oranges" because they fail to include other forms of average worker employee compensation like flexible hours. 🤣 #eattherich

@AlisonCreekside I wish we could burn down the Fraser Institute.... but of course... it's mostly imaginary so nothing to burn down... maybe we can just convince news people to stop treating them seriously
@chris @AlisonCreekside As if average workers have more *flexibility* in how they spend their time than CEOs do. Imagine calling your boss and saying you're working from the golf course that day…

@Cassandra @AlisonCreekside
Dear Boss,

I'll be late as my private jet from the Bahamas got delayed in Florida and we went to Disneyworld to pass the time.

Signed,
Extremely Flexible Average Worker

@chris I dunno if people outside BC know the Fraser Institute is a charity initially funded by MacMillan Bloedel, then BC's biggest forestry company, in a panic reaction to the election of social democrat Dave Barrett as BC's premier in 1972.
@AlisonCreekside I did not know that! Maybe they should go the way of their original benefactor! (Note: I say this as a life-long, born and raised resident of what was problem the biggest “Mac Blo Company Town" in the country, Port Alberni BC. It was famously the city with the highest average income in Canada at its peak in the 1970s. It has taken 50 years to stop the economic decline since.

@AlisonCreekside

It seems that Revenue Canada's definition of "charity" is vastly different from the Oxford Dictionary's: "an organization set up to provide help and raise money for those in need"

@chris

@EricLawton @chris Ditto rw media site True North which inherited charitable status when it bought a charity and changed the name, and also whatever the hell Rebel News Democracy Fund charity is all about.

Hey remember when RevCan went after that non-profit birders group for writing the gov about bees bc in so doing they violated the rule about not doing politics?

@AlisonCreekside @chris

I remember them as a Conservative (i.e., far right) think tank with way too much influence, quoted by newsies as the voice of G-d. Have loathed them for decades.

@trendless

@AlisonCreekside Any journalist that offers Fraser Institute content, their integrity should be flagged the same as Fraser "Flawed, Incoherent" Should they be required to read this aloud to their editor & cohorts? Tax Freedom Day (Fraser Institute as a whole?)
A Flawed, Incoherent, and Pernicious Concept #cdnpoli https://policyalternatives.ca/sites/default/files/uploads/publications/National_Office_Pubs/2005/tax_freedom_day.pdf
@pinhman Totally cool that the Fraser Institute, which as a charity does not itself pay taxes, rails against taxes.
The Fraser Institute gives out bursaries to journalists to take their free enterprise "educational program for journalists", covering the journos' economy airfare travel & accommodation.
Here's the 2021 class. The instructor was a community college economics teacher from Arizona.
@AlisonCreekside Fraser is nothing more than a disinformation machine. They use the well established Fear Uncertainty & Doubt (FUD) strategies, following the Software industry, Tobacco industry, Oil & Gas ... Uncertainty surrounds us, ignorance is effortless, throw in some doubt and a home run. Journalism's role is to lessen doubt, not expand it. They get a failing grade. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fear,_uncertainty,_and_doubt

@AlisonCreekside Fraser is an Atlas Network org, American based it's well funded by the extraordinarily wealthy, who's wealth exceeds that of most nations. US law demands they reveal what US based orgs it funds, but not foreign. Canada has few demands to reveal who & how advocacy orgs are funded, and what "inkind services" are provided. Will it take foreign interfernce seriously? Watch Canadian conservatives very carefully on this <-work with Atlas orgs regularly. https://web.archive.org/web/20200619024718/https://www.atlasnetwork.org/partners/global-directory/canada

@AlisonCreekside Fraser study authored by Vincent Geloso, a director of Montreal Economic Institute (MEI), an Atlas Network organization. MEI states "The MEI is an independent public policy think tank" and does not acknowledge is is supported by Atlas #cdnpoli https://web.archive.org/web/20200619024718/https://www.atlasnetwork.org/partners/global-directory/canada

@AlisonCreekside If Geloso is director of an entirely independent think tank, why is he the author of piece for an entirely different “independent” think tank. One must “turn off” thought to stop the contradictions. A better term for these orgs is “fountain of ignorance”. All but the willfully ignorant can see these orgs as tools of fear uncertainty and doubt to offer support to ignorance and misinformation.
@AlisonCreekside Flexible hours...? Wtf? Has this idiot ever worked a day in his life, or ever had any kind of business ownership? It doesn't matter which end of the spectrum you've experienced (moreso if you've experienced both, like myself), you know that's backwards.
@AlisonCreekside I value my schedule flexibility at $155M/year

@AlisonCreekside

Wait; because CEO's are on the clock and can only take an hour for lunch?

@AlisonCreekside thank you Fraser Institute for saying the part we're not talking about.

Ever since my landlord started accepting flexible working time as a payment method it has freed my ability to live and now I have 8 yachts while stuffing down avocado toast all day 🙄

@AlisonCreekside

Do banks allow you to pay your mortgage with "flexible hours"?

Does the grocery store let you buy food with "flexible hours"?

Can you pay your utilities with "flexible hours"?

Common here, the Fraser Institute is filled with economics expertise and this is the best disinformation narrative they can come up with?!?

The Fraser Institute is a #KochNetwork front for the right wing billionaires funding an anti-democracy movement & frying the planet.

Fraser Institute co-founder confirms 'years and years' of U.S. oil billionaires' funding

With nearly 16 per cent of its budget from foreign sources, the influential Fraser Institute claims that $500,000 from the US Koch family only went to its international programs.

The Vancouver Observer
@Npars01 The Fraser Institute is surprisingly forthright about some of their founding history. Here's some nice photos of Milton Friedman, Friedrich Hayek, and Sir Anthony Fisher at FI functions from their archives.

@AlisonCreekside Man, I wish my summer months flex time Friday afternoons off (but have to work 9 hrs M-Thurs) paid ME $10M/year!

oh wait, they must be talking about the free granola bars in the snack room. That must be worth $10M/year.

@AlisonCreekside can someone check the Fraser Institute dude to see if it's really 3 CEOs in a trenchcoat?
@lizardbill He's an assistant professor of economics at George Mason University in Virginia.
@AlisonCreekside @CBC has no urge to regain its previous legitimacy. I’m surprised they haven’t had #ChairmanHarper on to tell us how Canadians need a #ConRenaissance.
@AlisonCreekside That's not compensation, just like not working more than 8 hours a day it's solely existing to prevent workers from being grinded to death prematurely...

@AlisonCreekside JFC, they're pissing on us and not even bothering to convince us its rain...

My hubby was quite peeved at that Fraser guy's statement.
