@panos Do you have an ETA for a first release for Catodon (incl. Docker support)? I'm looking for alternatives to firefish.
@Unterschallmunition we're aiming for January, but could be early Feb.
I'd suggest reading our blog post to make sure you'll be happy with the direction we are taking:

@panos Thank you for the fast response. You did not mention any "hard" dates. I wanted to inquire, what "early 2024" meant (my understanding tells me that this could mean tomorrow. Or late March. Which would probably be a little bit long for current firefish instances). I shall wait in anticipation 🙂
Are you aware of any critical issues in firefish which would warrant any immediate action? I want to be sure that my planned instance does not ... break.
@Unterschallmunition I think you're good, our greek server also runs on ff 1.0.3 until catodon is ready =)
We wrote a more vague "early 2024" because this is still run by volunteers, and making some changes might take more time than we hope for, so we don't want to raise specific expectations. That's why I said that we aim for January, but we'll see how it goes, we don't want to rush it to reach deadlines if we end up needing more time.

@panos I understand. A ballpark date is enough to consider waiting or going for another fork. We're currently running firefish 1.0.5-rc for a small server. Since it is RC, we wanted to consider other software/forks, but wanted to wait for another stable version of firefish to consider. Since that might be unfeasible now, we are looking for alternatives.

Thank you for your time and answers. I hope you have success. 😃
