This gets my vote for best political cartoon of the year.

Apparently this cartoon has drawn criticism for a false equivalency between Netanyahu and Hamas, but the people who are making that accusation are missing what it's really trying to say: there are innocent people on both sides being attacked and killed, and that's the real problem.

@bascule The problem with the cartoon is that it pretends that the physical harms are equal. Israel has been killing and oppressing Palestinians for 75 years, Palestinian groups occasionally do some damage. Gaza is flattened. A small part of Israel and it's population suffers significant harm while all the Palestinians are subjected to violence and intimidation.

@bascule

The false equivalence crowd are really getting on my nerves.

It's entirely possible for all sides on any argument to be wrong, for entirely different reasons.

@bascule alt text would be helpful there. All I heard was a long file name.
@VE3RWJ it has alt text??? Although you're one of many people that after I post something with carefully crafted alt text, claims there is no alt text. Is alt text on Mastodon just broken???
@bascule @VE3RWJ I can see the alt text just fine in Tusky, fwiw
@dan @bascule Thanks. I'll try a different app
@bascule OH sorry. I'm not sure what is going on then. Thank you for adding alt text. It must be a problem with my third party Mastodon client.
@bascule Again, no alt text. What's in the picture, and what does the caption say?
@bascule
Why is the site goshennews in germany being censored?
"451: Unavailable due to legal reasons
We recognize you are attempting to access this website from a country belonging to the European Economic Area (EEA) including the EU which enforces the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and therefore access cannot be granted at this time."

@kletterli @bascule

No censorship going on here.

Goshennews simply doesn't want to comply with EU laws protecting our basic human rights and refuses service on their part.

In other words: They want to violate your human rights but that would open them up to legal liabilities, so they choose to not interact with you at all.
