I had my teenage colonized mind blown when I once referred to my part of the world as ‘the far east’. My history teacher at the time very patiently said, far, and east, relative to where? From where we are it’s simply here
@skinnylatte Right???????? I am not from “far east” but as a kid that term always confused me. Is there any alternate version of map that we should use too? :p
@skinnylatte the relative direction only works if there is a flat earth… says it all.
@skinnylatte I always found it funny referring to Vietnam as the East, when it was very much west of the West where I grew up! Geography is a funny thing.
@skinnylatte East Asia is probably more agreeable. And then you get to call Europe "West Asia". Making Europe a sep continent is pretty debatable imo.

@skinnylatte Here in Europe, I have yet to visit a region which would not call itself “Central Europe”. Germans, Poles, Danes, Italians, Slovenes, Serbians and Bulgarians do it all the time, and the French, Ukrainians, Greeks and Estonians use the term at least occasionally. I once heard it even in Ireland.

Europe might be a tiny continent, but its heart is HUGE!
