Observation: on any other social media platform, it's very unusual to see anyone giving more than, say, one share/RT/boost for every ten likes/faves they give.

On Fosstodon, I'm seeing more like 4 boosts for every five favorites.

IDK what conclusion one would draw, or even whether that's an all of Mastodon thing or just a Fosstodon thing specifically. But it fascinates me.

@jimsalter I think a large part of it is people here realize there is no algorithm. Therefore boosting is required to help the proliferation of content and favoriting is just a signal to the poster.

@fruzyna there must be SOME algorithm, or I wouldn't get mostly-relevant content when I get bored enough to exit my own notifications and friend list, and start browsing the Fediverse from the world icon, yeah?

And I definitely still get mostly-relevant content that way.
