Wolf480pl@f idk about other jurisdictions, but in Poland if you're younger than 13, you're legally unable to agree to a contract on your own, you need a parent's consent. So for example a ToS of a domain registrar should contain a clause that you promise you are 13yo or older. But then, if you have money, you probably got it from your parents anyway, so they probably agreed?

@[email protected] first of all. Regardless of whether I have money, if I can't pay with it, it doesn't matter. I couldn't get a bank card until I was 18, PayPal was also 18+ and so on.
Second, no, I didn't have a job before 18, I was already at my limit with school + learning programming separately. Also, it got worse with uni, to the point I had 0 free time for anything with no possible way I could also have a job at the same time. Neocities yes, but at this point the whole point about "it's not like social media" falls apart because it's again a centralized service.
And birthday money - I don't have birthdays often enough to pay montly payments, no...
Like sorry, but you're making a lot of assumptions here.
And that's not even including needing to learn web development, which is in itself a pretty big barrier. In other words, I can argue that making a website yourself is probably the least accessible way of having a homepage ever.

@alice Did I say homepages are for everyone? No, but you've basically assumed that. It's only for those who have the time, money, and passion for it. If you can't or don't want to, then don't.
