Any recommendation for cheap retrogaming SCART/HDMI thingies? I brought my old Sony HB-501P MSX back home, which has a 6-pin DIN output and for which I already had a SCART cable, but my new TV doesn't support SCART anymore, only HDMI.

Looking around there are cheap options but they seem not recommended because of high latency (maybe only good for DVD players?), while retrogaming options cost hundreds of euros (retrotink, OSCC). Anything more affordable for the limited use I'd make of it?

@lminiero
Cheapest new setup you can buy is a DIY "GBS Control" kit, the GBS board by itself is pretty bad but with Control and a handmade cable it's almost perfect. There are premade versions for less cheap, but I can't vouch for any.

Next, Retrotink 2x if you can get composite, S-Video or SCART->Component out of your MSX (if you can start with composite it might be good enough).

Next, an OSSC from AliExpress, you're not supporting the developers by going that route but it's #OpenHardware.

@grantek sounds interesting but I'm clueless and very bad at messing with hardware myself 😄

@lminiero According to https://www.faq.msxnet.org/connector.html your HB-501P only outputs composite even though it ends up in a SCART plug, so any of the Retrotink 2x line would be the best plug-and-play option. You can get a very cheap SCART->composite breakout adapter or relatively cheap new DIN->composite cables for the MSX.

If you're not able to go for a Retrotink for ultimate low latency, then don't let that stop you - just get whatever you can find to convert/display composite and enjoy the computer :)

@grantek thanks for the link and the info! I did suspect video output via SCART would be composite too, since the 6-pin DIN was described as composite in the technical details I found on my MSX. That made me fear most of the more expensive thingies would not work either, though, as many are advertised to only work with RGB SCART. That said, it looks like the 2x may still be a bit too expensive for my taste, also considering I'd need additional cables both on the way in and out
