Hey #housing fediversal let's talk about dwelling units, not just ADU but the DU part and what that means.

The legal definition of a #dwellingunit creates housing shortages.

One way to ease the immediate housing crisis is to lower standards for acceptable dwelling units.

Leasing a pad and utility hookup to a mobile dwelling (#vanlife) should be a much more supported housing type in most metro areas.

Prefab units that cost a small fraction of an ordinary stickbuilt house can be developed.

@laprice yeah i guess that was supposed to be the big pitch. i wonder if i was falling into the trap of assuming something that is automated is necessarily more efficient

@hipsterelectron not profitable is fine for public housing.

Doen't need to turn a profit, just be habitable.

And I really like the idea of having prefab dwellings that residents are encouraged and supported in finisihing to their needs.
