Been seeing a LOT of data from TPS on the rise of hate crimes and who is experiencing them.

One of the factors that is continually overlooked is: WHO is more likely to report them.

I reported one in 2016, and only because it reached the level that several people insisted that it needed to be reported. Mostly, I chalk shit up to Just Another Asshole and move on.

Even this past summer when I had white paint thrown at me, I wasn't going to bother, and frankly, the cops I was surrounded by weren't going to ask β€” or even make eye contact lest report-writing ensue β€” so... until they arrested the wrong people, this was absolutely not going on the books.

As it stands, "hate" is not among the charges.

Do you know who DOES have hate charges pending? NINE of the eleven people arrested for postering and painting an inanimate object.

Because rich PALE people are extraordinarily comfortable having long chats with cops and insisting that they feel personally threatened and that maybe some doors need to be kicked in at 5am to appease that fear.

Darker people just fear or loathe the cops.

Edit: adding #PaintGate for aggregation purposes.

I need to repost that second photo on its own because I need you to appreciate just how fucking invisible I am to these cops.

Right in front of them is a dark-skinned woman β€” WEARING ALL BLACK CLOTHING β€” covered from head to toe in white paint.

MAN that cement is fascinating.

I wonder what they thought would happen if they made eye contact. Probably lots of paperwork.

@Gigi
I'm reminded of author Douglas Adams' "SEP field".

*"An SEP is something we can't see, or don't see, or our brain doesn't let us see, because we think that it's somebody else's problem. That’s what SEP means. Somebody Else’s Problem. The brain just edits it out, it's like a blind spot."*

@Gigi fuckin wild isn't it they spend more time going after people who thew washable paint on a building compared to an actual hate crime on a person. acab
