SAD or Seasonal Affective Disorder (feeling depressed, listless, other negative feelings during the short days/lower light of winter) has been an accepted disorder for at least the last 35 years. I have a long-time friend who was a professor in Winnipeg, and had to buy a large, expensive sun lamp as part of the treatment. After retiring, this person moved to Arizona, & spends little time away from sunny places.
