The Iconic Barrowland Ballroom Neon Sign on Gallowgate in Glasgow.

The Ballroom was first built by Maggie McIver, the Barras Queen, in 1934. On its roof was sign depicted a man pushing a barrow, which is thought to have been the first animated neon sign in the UK.

In 1958, the same year Maggie McIver died, the original ballroom burned down and the wheel from the sign was pretty much the only thing to survive a fire. It now hangs in the main foyer of the re-built ballroom.

The current neon sign was created in 1985, shortly after the ballroom re-invented itself as a music venue, and it's believed to be the largest sign of its kind in the UK. An attempt to get the sign listed in 2006 was turned down, but recent rule changes means this may now be possible.
