OK, well, to hell with this instance and Eugen. That was the final straw for me.
I'm likely going to move instances.
Fuck this.
But I'm just going say this:
I told you so. I was right on the money with this one.
@timberwraith
You're totally right, but the thing which really boggles my mind is that, even if you're a self-interested white cishet lib, surely you've got to see that Facebook just wants to fuck you. If you want to follow Uncle Whatsisface, just join Facebook. If you want fedi not to be absorbed by the Borg, don't be enthusiastic about them joining up. I get that them federating with fedi means you can see their stuff without ads... for now. But the lack of vision of all these people is, if not surprising, annoying.
Eugen, though, probably just wants to be bought out.
@intransitivelie Right? You'd think people would recognize that.
But so many don't or oddly still don't care?
Eugen is... I don't know anything about the man personally but all I'll say is that he's currently putting the "bro" in tech bro.
But I certainly wouldn't be surprised if there's some underlying motivation such as being bought out.
@timberwraith
I think what it boils down to is that in the end, most people don't care enough to put up with inconvenience. That's true of this situation and it's true of the silent majority of people who don't care one way or the other about a lot of issues. I genuinely believe that most people aren't evil at heart, they're just morally lazy. It makes sense of their hypocrisy: they want to be good, but it costs too much, so they speak one way but act another.
Which is why it's so important to destroy the idea that one can be a good person in thought rather than in deed. American protestant Christianity is really bad about this, but it's endemic to white liberals too. "I'm not a racist," they cry indignantly as they allow the systems of white supremacy to continue benefiting them. The idea that "sin" for want of a better word is all about one's beliefs or thoughts rather than one's actions is pernicious and toxic. Love is a verb, but so is hate, and maybe indifference should be one as well.
