I see quite a few people worried that #Threads joining the #Fediverse will either a) harm the fediverse through some Embrace, Extend, Extinguish routine b) diminish their experience with lower-quality posts c) or both.

Maybe it's worth remembering that even if all of these fears materialise (and there's no way to know, yet), the open web and its proponents always adapt and build again. The options will be there for you, or you can build them.

Meta and their ilk can't stop you from having the non-commercial, open community that we appreciate.

There's really no need to stress. They will do what they will do. We will do what we will do. We'll solve it.

Meta gains nothing through federation. It’s not as if the fediverse has some insanely huge, lucrative user base to harvest/exploit but the flip side is that users who do use threads now have a way off of the platform to join us over here, as well as adding validation to the fediverse as a platform for normal people

We won’t grow this place by putting up walls
