i havent been working hard enough to be experiencing burnout

@codicil burnout is less about how “hard” you work, and more about how fulfilling that work is, IIRC. if you work a “normal” amount but the job is soul-crushing or boring as hell or in a field that you couldn’t care less about, you’ll start to check out anyway, even if you’re paid handsomely or have a 20-hour work week or whatever

i forget where i read this but yeah

@QuietMisdreavus I saw that too and maybe it is correct but it still feels weirdly convenient that someone can keep working 40 hours indefinitely if they are fulfilled
also I feel like most people do not get to have that

@codicil i think it's more that someone can keep working 40 hours if-and-only-if they are personally fulfilled by it, which almost never happens lol

and even then you probably also need the privilege to have a lot of life stuff taken care of for you, like food and cleaning

@QuietMisdreavus @codicil I think it's at least slightly more complex than this, because there's something to be said for personal investment as well maybe? Like working 40 hours a week in food service was exhausting but didn't contribute to *burnout* specifically as much as 20 hours a week on psychic damage tech stuff
