1: Doom splash screen showing doomguy shooting guns
2: Starting area of E1M1: Hangar level
3: Shareware upsell screen advertising additional episodes for $40 with screenshots of new game content and ordering hotline number
4: Pre-quit screen berating player for not ordering Doom

Thanks for the great content. Please consider adding alt text to your images in the future. It helps keep the fedi accessible and many people including me won't boost without it!

@Eliot_L That's fine with me. I'm incapable of describing things.

@dosnostalgic, thanks for the post and @Eliot_L, thanks for the descriptions!

I appreciate the image descriptions†, and also that some people can't do them, so boosting both posts works okay for me.

†because my uncorrected vision is terrible, many of my mutuals are blind, and I read fedi on a text mode device

@HauntedOwlbear @Eliot_L I understand, and I understood this about Mastodon when I joined. I can describe text paragraph on a background, but anything more than that sends me into a small panic. Just for the sake of my own comfort this is a hit I knew I would have to take with the community. I don't see it changing either.
@HauntedOwlbear @Eliot_L This applies in real life too. I just can't describe things, and I often don't even remember visual details. I've lived at the address I currently reside in since 2009, and I couldn't tell you what color my house is. 🤷‍♂️

@dosnostalgic
I hope I didn't accidentally make you feel that I was demanding alt text!

I was trying to get across that I know you can't do it, and that's okay, while thanking @Eliot_L for their supplied text.

@HauntedOwlbear @Eliot_L No, no. I was just expanding on my originally brief reply. I couldn't remember if I ever expressed this on here before, and it's probably better if I put it in writing.
@dosnostalgic
Interesting, is this aphantasia or something else? Just curious, don’t feel obliged to answer
🤗
@helpsterTee I have a limited understanding of what aphantasia is, but from what I understand, I don't think so. I can definitely imagine things. I'm just bad at communicating what they are.
@dosnostalgic there is this test: https://www.reddit.com/r/Aphantasia/comments/cpwimq/ball_on_a_table_visualization_experiment/

I realised I’m thinking more in concepts than imagining visually. But what you describe sounds different.

@helpsterTee Hmmm... Well, I don't know now.
@dosnostalgic if you see a picture of a freezer in front of a tiled wall and cannot put that into words, it’s different, because sole aphantasts can analyse that.

There is visual agnosia, but this is not being able to recognise things or features at all:
