Can people just skip straight to publishing their stuff in some reasonable form where it already feels like Reader Mode (or unclutter.it)? That way there's no need to download all the auxiliary junk that gets stripped out/cleaned up in the first place... (and no need to run the extension)

I wonder what the overlap is between people who agree with this post and the set of people who assign high value to the Web as a sui generis medium for enabling a specific type of personal expression (and consequently: making pages that require the use of Reader Mode).

It is perhaps not far from the overlap between people who jumped on the Gemini bandwagon and people who have baked into their own personal websites flourishes and antipatterns of the sort pre-empted by the constraints of Gemini.

@colby 100% this.

A form of this is just publishing an Atom/RSS/JSON feed with full articles also does that: readers then just customize the #RSS reader as they want and enjoy a more uniform reading experience (and potentially very fast loading when using a local client).

@colby but where's all the "added value (tm)" in that
@colby Firefox has that built in and I love it. It's also great when things are a bit too hard to read without my reading glasses. πŸ€“
@colby
I remember the old days when flashing titles were the in thing and it went downhill from their to form over content.
@colby we need to normalize people uploading plaintext files onto neocities or somethng
@apophis or LibreOffice files saved as HTML, even (instead of ODT).
