I wrote a holiday gift guide, sorta.

CW for cancer and death 🙃

Holiday Gift Guide

Yo! There’s not much time left before the holidays are upon us, and we’re probably already passed the safe shipping threshold for ordering things and having them guaranteed to be delivered by Christmas. That means it’s entirely the wrong time for a holiday shopping guide, so it’s a good thing that this is barely a shopping guide, and more of a meditation on giving. There is a gift guide at the bottom, it’s a little non-traditional. The middle bits are about consumerism and death, so maybe skip those if you’re actually looking for a gift guide.

This is largely @Username_Here_ASAP's fault, because he made me think about it.

It is a holiday gift guide, although it's not really a holiday *shopping* guide.

It's just the approach I took to picking gifts this year, and also some thoughts about what I like about the holidays and why I don't mind so much that they make me sad.

"Have a wonderful holiday season everyone. Be genuine. Be present. The world is on fire, time is fleeting. Celebrate, hold your loved ones close."

@ajroach42 For me, church choirmistress, Christmas is *work*. New Year, on the other hand, is home with my beloved spouse drinking bubbly and hiding from the fireworks. It's very long since I've been in a gift-giving tradition for *these* holidays, but many of your ideas are good enough to carry over for birthdays etcetera. Thank you!

@ajroach42 Thanks for taking the time to write this out, I really enjoyed your perspective. Your ideas for gift giving on a budget were really thoughtful and there are so many options. I love the creativity there.

I hope it’s not awkward to say, I’m also sorry for the loss of your mom.

@Vidyala thanks. It's been half a decade, so I'm pretty okay with it, but this is the time of year that I notice the most.
@ajroach42 I’ll bet. I hope you have a peaceful holiday season.
