in choir I was an alto which at my school made me rare and coveted but being an alto also means I know the weirdest versions of Three Little Maids and How Are Things in Glocca Morra that you've ever heard
@ElleGray Alto parts are the best. I was a soprano, but I was so tired of singing the melody, s when I joined a jazz choir I told 'em I was an alto. *Those* were some wild parts--jumped all over the place, and almost all color notes. Big fun.

@sarawinge @ElleGray I used to wash pots in a little room in the back of a big commercial kitchen. The pot room had only one speaker but the receiver was set to stereo so I learned every pop harmony in existence at the time: Garfunkel (not Simon), George and Ringo (not Paul and John), etc.

It was a wonderful musical education, actually.

@msbellows @sarawinge it really is. I helps you start to hear a song in layers, and to appreciate how they create sounds and moods
